Women in Black/Mujeres de Negro

The International Conference of Women in Black/Mujeres de Negro, is held in Valencia, Spain, between the 16th August to the 20th August. We started to come yesterday, the 15th. 370 women coming from 40 different countries, are gathering in Valencia to discuss endurable peace, how to deal with weapon dealers and warmongers. The antimilitaristic philosophy has been one of the crucial goals to this group who started 1988 in Israel. The Women in Black were influenced by the Madres de Mayo in Argentina and saw in the women a force to be counted with. Today they are Women in Black in the Balkans, Italy, Spain, England, the US and in several other countries.
Issues as the nationalisms and the domestic violence against women and children are also present in the agenda of the group.
In Spain, a country concerned with groups trying to reivindicate the old cultural and politic belongings, the issue of natioalism is always present. The Basque Country, Catalonien, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Galicia, have different cultural roots and show the cultural diversity of the Spanish Peninsule.
